~Professional Background~
Coaching, Tutoring, and Editing
I began my business—Integral Editing—in 2015, working with authors outside the academy such as business and social media. Often, people utilize both aspects of what I offer—the cognitive and the somatic approaches.
I have almost 30 years’ experience in education, working with young kiddos in pre-school to adult graduate students at all levels and abilities. Over ten of those years was spent in Special Education—pre-K to 6th—for San Diego Unified Schools, under the guidance and mentorship of the late Karen J. Harris.
Since 2022, I have been teaching a series of somatic writing workshops called From the Inside Out. There’s more details about it on its own page.
I’ve worked in higher education at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco in different capacities for over a decade now. While with the Center for Writing and Scholarship, I held a few positions such as Distinguished Fellow, Technical Editor, Mentor, and Editing Services Manager, working with a vast array of students who were neurodivergent, neurotypical, or whose first language was not English.
Still at CIIS, I currently work with the Office of Student Accessibility Services as an academic and writing coach, tutor, and editor for students who are granted accommodations under the ADA. They are neurodivergent, for example being on the Autism spectrum, having ADHD, or PTSD; others are blind; or perhaps have brain injuries. I help with executive functions such as scheduling or developing ideas and structure for papers; the detailed requirements of APA or Chicago formatting style; and with a more creative lens, I help with blending the personal voice with the academic one.
I am both privileged and honored to say that I have worked with folks from around the world: from Canada to Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, China, Guam, the Philippines, Jordan, Japan, and beyond.
